PORTRAITURE

What is a portrait? Everybody has snaps of their family, friends or even their pets. However, a portrait has about it something that captures the essence of the person, so that the personality of the subject gives the picture an interactive almost three dimensional aspect.

Take a look at the People galleries, particularly 2 & 3 and see if you take away from the picture more than the thought that it was just somebody’s face.

Some people like to choose a highly stylised approach, with hair and make-up artists and elaborate settings. Most times however, the best portraits are honest. That’s why sometimes it’s easier to photograph animals – they are what they are! Take a look for yourself at the Animals gallery.

ART

Big pictures are made up of small details.

We are surrounded by amazing images waiting to be captured; in our gardens, our homes, our work places – or even on the mantelpiece.

For example, if there hadn’t been a camera ready in the middle of the Northamptonshire countryside on a bright June day, then the bee in the Flowers gallery would never have been immortalised going about his business collecting pollen from wildflowers.
